Question by SaraWen: Do light oak trim and furniture in navy and white go together?
My living room and kitchen area are almost one large, great room space. I have light oak cabinets, trim on the windows, and kitchen dining floor. I would like to purchase new furniture in the navy and white combination uplostery. Will this work? One salesperson said that I shouldn’t do it, but go for the warm tones.

I think it would look great. If you think about a color wheel, w/the yellow/orange tones of the oak cabinets on one side, you’ll notice that blue shades are opposite on the wheel. So navy would make for a nice contrast to the warm tones of the cabinetry. Also, any shade of blue is a classic pairing w/white and wood tones, people do it all the time (including myself)! Go with what you like; the salesperson won’t be living in your house.

I would take a photo at the store and take it home to check.
I would think that oak and natural colours go together. White goes with everything and navy is a blue so should go with oak. It will bring out the oak nicely in fact.
Anyway if you buy something you didn’t like at first you might be sorry after or if you didn’t check out your first choice. A piece of material would help to check it out.
I seriously doubt he brought black and white people together. after all, he got big in the 80's, which was way after major racism was common in america.
